The Flying Pig Bookstore carries more than 40,000 books, cards, and gifts on hand for all ages, with the ability to order quickly from our 2+million-book database.

Great selection and friendly, extremely knowledgeable staff to help with all your book needs (or leave you alone to browse in peace). While we are a full-service general bookstore, we have a strong children's book specialty. Yankee Magazine named us 2013 Best Children's Bookstore in New England!

The Flying Pig annual book-review newsletter is here!

Each year, we publish a round-up of our favorite books of the year for all ages. The reviews are weighted toward newer fall releases, but the newsletter is a compendium of fantastic books from all of 2014. Readers will be happy to see a return of the Flying Pig's handy X-Y Guide (If you liked X book, try Y book), as well as a robust section of titles for kids and adults by Vermont authors and artists. Come on in for your copy! As always, newsletter books are 20% off through the holidays.

Brighten the holidays for children and teens!

Every year, we team up with local agencies serving families to bring new books into the hands of children. This year, we are working with the Shelburne Food Shelf, CLiF, and the Lund Family Center. Throughout the store, we have hung snowflakes with "boy" or "girl" and children's ages noted on the back. You choose a snowflake and a book (at 20% off!), and we will wrap and deliver the goodies! The Snowflake Project needs to wrap up by December 17, so if you look forward to this opportunity to share your favorite books with young readers who might not have the funds for new books in their homes, please come on in!  We are also happy to choose the books for you if you're in a hurry or aren't as familiar with children's books. This is always one of our favorite programs of the year. We love seeing the care and thoughtfulness of families choosing beloved books to share with other families in our area!

A World Full of Color -- We live in a wonderfully diverse world, and yet it can be challenging to find a wide range of books featuring main characters of color where race is not the driving force of the narrative. Elizabeth maintains a database of nearly 1,000 terrific titles for babies to teens:

We also write for Publishers Weekly about children's books and bookselling,  in a blog called Shelftalker. Josie and Elizabeth take turns posting bookselling anecdotes, book reviews, funny stuff, and literary treats of all kinds.
