  WELCOME

Great selection and friendly, extremely knowledgeable staff to help with all your book needs (or leave you alone to browse in peace). While we are a full-service general bookstore, we have a strong children's book specialty. Yankee Magazine named us 2013 Best Children's Bookstore in New England!

Happy news! The Wall Street Journal chose us as one of seven bookstores around the country that help serve as anchors for their wonderful towns.  Also, Flying Pig co-owner Elizabeth Bluemle's book, Tap Tap Boom Boom, was chosen for the New York Public Library's 100 Best Children's Books of 2014, received an ALA Notable medal, and was given a Charlotte Zolotow Honor for outstanding picture book text!

WCAX and WPTZ came by the bookstore in December to capture a little bit of our happy news:

The Flying Pig annual book-review newsletter is here!

Every year, we team up with local agencies serving families to bring new books into the hands of children. This year, we worked with the Shelburne Food Shelf, CLiF, and the Lund Family Center, giving out more than 140 books donated by customers and the store. Many of the books went to an innovative program that enables incarcerated parents to record themselves reading the book to their children, and the children then receive not only the book, but the recording, as well. It's a beautiful way to keep families connected.

We also write for Publishers Weekly about children's books and bookselling,  in a blog called Shelftalker. Josie and Elizabeth take turns posting bookselling anecdotes, book reviews, funny stuff, and literary treats of all kinds.
