Every child loves animals. At some point, all of us have wished for our own zoo filled with beasts and birds; a pet shop with cats, dogs, and fish in every shape and color; a cabin in the woods to spy on brown bears and wild wolves; and a ranch with mustangs to race across the plains! Here's a book for every animal lover.
About the Author
Dahlov Ipcar (1917-2017) was an American author, artist, and illustrator, whose career spanned five decades. She wrote and illustrated over thirty children's books, won the NEIBA President's Award and the Kerlan Award for Children's Literature. A true master of color and organic form, Ipcar's unique and timeless stories instantly captured the hearts of children world over. Until her death, at age 99, Dahlov still painted on her farm in Maine where she penned many of her greatest works and had lived since 1937.
"It’s still relatively early in the year, as many of us wait to see what 2014 will bring us in the realm of brand-new picture books, but as we wait to see new titles, I’m glad to see publishers like this, restoring older books with such passion and attention – taking gentle care, that is, of our rich picture book heritage." —Kirkus Reviews
"In her text and arresting drawings, Ms. Ipcar shows old-fashioned respect for the ability of children to appreciate specificity: As a farmer, the boy yearns not merely for "cattle" but for "Guernsey cows, Jersey cows, Holsteins, and Dutch-belted cows." —The Wall Street Journal
